About Milne Bay
Some people are too scared to visit PNG for fear of being the victim of rascal attacks. But did you know that Milne Bay Province, just a mere two hours' flying time from Cairns, is one of the safest and most peaceful destinations you could ever hope to find? All of our visitors are charmed by the magic of Milne Bay and all return to find out more.
Milne Bay is very special place. Located on the eastern most tip of Papua New Guinea it has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. At the end of the Great Barrier Reef, it has the best diving in the world. National Geographic has recently awarded Milne Bay this distinction.
Milne Bay has it all, from mountains and rainforests to deserted islands with white sands and breathtaking views. There are hot springs, virgin rainforests, pristine waters, excellent game fishing, diverse cultures, birds of paradise, butterflies, orchids, war relics from the Battle of Milne Bay, trekking, village stay programmes, history, waterfalls, volcanoes - the list is endless.
You are quite safe to move around. As the only matrilineal society on the mainland, the province is peaceful and stable. The people are humble and hospitable and love visitors. You will never be left to sit alone. Someone will always come and ask you if you need help.
Milne Bay is also the home of the Trobriand Islands, the mysterious islands of love, famous for its unique Yam Festival and the Kula Trade. The first week of November showcases the link between the people of Milne Bay and the ocean with the exciting Canoe and Kundu Festival. If you are not sure what these are, why not come over to check us out? Aioni. We hate to say goodbye.
