Milne Bay: Getting There
Milne Bay is separated from the rest of mainland PNG by rugged terrain so it can only be reached by air or sea.
Air Niugini currently offers daily flights ex Port Moresby from Monday to Friday and twice daily flights on Saturday and Sunday. There are connecting flights via Port Moresby to Cairns, Brisbane, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Manila and the Solomon Islands.
Airlines PNG operate twice weekly flights from Port Moresby to Kiriwina Island, Alotau and Misima Island as well as daily flight from Cairns and Brisbane to Port Moresby.
Flights can be booked online at www.airniugini.com.pg, www.apng.com (Airlines PNG) or through your travel agent.
If you are transiting in Port Moresby, check in for Alotau (Gurney) at the International terminal to avoid the chaos of the Domestic terminal and then enjoy lunch on the deck overlooking the airport at the Airways Hotel Poolside Restaurant. The courtesy shuttle will ensure that you arrive on time to board your onward flight.
The tourism industry and government of Milne Bay are working hard to reintroduce a direct international service from Cairns to Alotau very soon. Watch this space for updates.
Tourists require a Visa to enter PNG and this can be obtained on arrival in Port Moresby for a fee of K100.
