On the Water
Barely explored by recreational fisherman, the indications are that Milne Bay Province possesses some of Papua New Guinea’s best fishing.
Indeed, with Papua New Guinea holding 20 line-class world records in 2005 it is obvious that there are some monsters out there. All the more significant given PNG’s relatively tiny game fishing community.
If you're fishing Milne Bay, you won't be restricted to hitting on a couple of types of fish. Out on the islands, you can hunt giant marlin and sailfish, chase wahoo, tuna and mackerel or land a giant trevally.
Whilst in the rivers around the Bay you can fight the world renowned Papuan black bass, and down on the south coast barramundi, mangrove jack, trevelly, snapper and queenfish abound. Or you can just mess about in a dinghy or an outrigger canoe and try and catch something for the BBQ. Whatever your choice, everyone in Milne Bay goes fishing and the fishing here is some of the best in the country.
One of the best features of fishing Milne Bay is the knowledge that many parts are still unexplored by game fishermen, with many fish having literally never seen a lure. Certainly, Milne Bay is one of the last true fishing frontiers in the Pacific and an experience not to be missed.
Driftwood is Milne Bay’s specialist fishing tour operator and offers a range of fishing options from half and single day trips through to extended live-aboard safaris.
