Milne bay is one of the world’s last remaining wilderness areas whose rainforests and reefs are in pristine condition.
However, the province is under threat from illegal logging, mining, over fishing by foreign fleets and agriculture. Eco tourism is the most sustainable way for the people to benefit from their resources by keeping them intact.
Visitors to Milne Bay who go out to stay in the village guest houses are helping the rural people to earn an income while maintaining their traditional lifestyles. While people prefer to live in their villages as subsistence farmers, they do need to educate their children and all have financial obligations. Eco tourism goes hand-in-hand with conservation.
