The Canoe Festival, always held on the first weekend in November, is a very important event.
A brilliant display of Milne Bay’s maritime heritage and culture, the annual Canoe Festival is a must. Owned and run by the people, this three-day festival features a stunning display of traditional canoe races, both paddling and sailing, war canoe races, demonstrations of sailing skills and manoeuvres, traditional culture, dance, drama, music and traditional food exchanges. The opportunities for photography are unrivalled.
Book your flights for a few days before the festival starts to avoid disappointment. Make sure you attend the opening first thing on Friday morning.
